Flyers forward Travis Konecny out with concussion

Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny is sidelined indefinitely with a concussion, the team announced Monday.

Konecny sustained the injury after receiving an open-ice hit from Ottawa Senators defenceman Mark Borowiecki during the first period of Philadelphia’s 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old Konecny scored his team co-leading 11th goal of the season earlier in the game. He also has club-best totals in assists (17) and points (28) in 30 games for the Flyers.

«He’s been our best scorer,» Philadelphia coach Alain Vigneault said Monday. «He’s found a way to contribute not just offensively but he’s been playing well defensively. We’d been using him five-on-five, on the power play. It’s going to give an opportunity to someone else to get a bigger role and more ice time.»

Konecny has collected 152 points (70 goals, 82 assists) in 263 career games since being selected by the Flyers with the 24th overall pick of the 2015 NHL draft.
